For the punk rocker trying to find the "right thing to wear," it is usually as simple as checking the band or their label's website. Many independent punk rock labels feature online stores stocked with punk merchandise. In addition to the added benefit of a wide selection of punk merchandise not available at mall shops like Hot Topic, punk merchandise available from a band's website or a record label's website usually comes a few dollars cheaper than mall boutiques. Also, buying punk merchandise directly from a band or their label, usually means the money is going to support the band rather than a middleman.

Indie-punk labels like A-F records, Asian Man Records, and Fat Wreck Chords are just a few of perhaps hundreds of independent, punk labels that carry punk merchandise. Online boutiques like Machete MFG also cater specifically to the punk rock scene with plenty of merchandise.

Punk merchandise like punk hoodies from bands like Diesel Boy , Good Riddance and Sick Of It All, as well as Fat Wreck Chords logo sweatshirts are available from $15 to $27. Priced for as $7 to $14, punk merchandise like punk band tshirts can be found sporting logos from Against Me, Anti-Flag, Nerf Herder, Rise Against, the Teen Idols and Swingin' Utters to name just a few.

Although punk music and the punk scene is a movement concerned more with qualitative elements than superficial, fashion and style can go hand in hand. Although punk merchandise can be seen at its face as just punk merchandise, within the scene punk merchandise can make a powerful statement. What some may see as just a shirt, to the punker, the punk band tshirt can be a personal flare that symbolizes deep personal beliefs.
